The Tampa Museum of Art is currently accepting applications for a museum educator. The primary responsibility for this position will be the establishment of a new direction for the Museum’s engagement with its K-12 student and family audiences. The educator will facilitate the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of all educational programming for these audiences at the Museum, including gallery, school tour, and outreach components, and a well-established children’s summer art camp. Administration of hands-on studio classes and other adult programming will be secondary responsibilities. The museum educator will report to the chief curator and manage a portion of the Museum’s Programming Department budget. S/he will oversee and grow the Museum’s corps of volunteer docents, and work with other volunteers as appropriate.

The ideal candidate must be an innovative teacher who believes in an expansive view of 21st century museum education. S/he must understand how and what people can learn from art, and why they attend and support art museums. The candidate should also be well versed in modern and contemporary art history, and be able to command the respect of regional education professionals.

Job Requirements

S/he will have a minimum of five year’s experience developing programs within an art museum or similar institutional setting. A bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, studio art, design, or architecture or related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
