*About the AAM Education Department *

The Education Department of the Aspen Art Museum strives to make
contemporary art meaningful to a wide array of audiences through
interpretive projects and diverse, community-based programming. These
object-based learning opportunities are designed to engage audiences in
thought-provoking experiences of art, culture, and society. Programs occur
both in the museum and throughout the community, and provide the
opportunity for audiences to see and respond to contemporary art through
hands-on workshops, gallery talks and tours, lectures, and innovative
activities related to current exhibitions.

*Job Description *

Reporting to the AAM Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, the *Education
Curator *will be a vital member of the Aspen Art Museum’s senior management
and creative team, working closely with the Curatorial Department to
develop and implement world-class programs including artist-driven events,
performances, lectures and conversations, gallery talks, and workshops. The
*Education Curator *must have a passion for contemporary art and the
ability to spark interest, arouse curiosity, and encourage others to learn
about art utilizing visual literacy and object-oriented learning.

*Duties *

 Vision education program for the AAM’s new facility, including the
expansion of existing programs and development of new initiatives. Develop
and plan a robust and lively roster of programs for the opening of the
museum’s new building in 2014.

 Build public engagement through innovative programming that encourages
introspection and reflection, as well as promotes unexpected encounters
with art.

 Create, plan, and facilitate all AAM exhibition-related educational and
public programs.

 Oversee all AAM educational outreach, school, and family programs and
help identify other communities that can be positively impacted by
contemporary art.

 Oversee Education Coordinator, Outreach Educators, Workshop Instructors,
Departmental Interns and Volunteers; provide education staff with training
and materials about the museum’s exhibitions, as well as resources for
engaging all audiences.

 Create public-facing written and electronic interpretive materials for
AAM exhibitions including, but not limited to, audio tours, teachers’
guides, and family guides.

 Responsible for generating promotional material for AAM education
programs. Work with web designers to maintain accurate and relevant content
on AAM’s website. Prepare all education text for publications and education
grant proposals.

 Responsible for the development and implementation of the Young Curators
of the Roaring Fork program and exhibition.

*Requirements and Qualifications *

• MA in Museum Education, Art History or equivalent.

• 3-5 years’ experience as a supervisor of education and education-related
components in an art museum.

• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to
multitask under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• Excellent time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving
skills.

• Ability to follow through and meet deadlines while coordinating many
current and long-range projects simultaneously.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• In-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for contemporary visual art, artists,
museums, and exhibitions.

• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to be present
at public programs.

• Ability to represent the museum with a high level of integrity and
professionalism, adhere to museum policies, maintain confidentiality, and
support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
