The future of information is digital, but unless we take action today, our digital collections may not be safe, usable, or even understandable in just a few years’ time.

The British Library is one of the World’s greatest research libraries, committed to providing researchers with access to reliable digital content now and into the future. The transient nature of digital material means that the longevity and persistence of our digital collections is at risk throughout the lifecycle, from the very point of acquisition onwards.
This role is a rare and exciting opportunity to work at the cutting edge of international digital preservation research & development, and help ensure the Library can preserve its digital collections far into the future. Working closely with colleagues from across the Library, you will be part of our digital preservation R&D team and contribute to the successful delivery of the Library’s new digital preservation strategy. You’ll work with digital material in a wide range of formats, exploring and analysing our options to help us identify the most appropriate means of safeguarding it for future generations.

The successful candidate will care about the longevity of the BL’s digital material and be motivated to work with both content owners and technical colleagues to identify and mitigate risks to it. You will have a degree-level qualification in LIS or archival science, or equivalent experience. Your knowledge and experience of working with digital materials will be of particular importance.

This is a fixed term post for two years, based at St Pancras. The post holder will be expected to travel on occasion, either to other Library sites, nationally, or internationally.
Closing date 29 May 2013.
