The G:Class Assistant will develop and facilitate projects, trips and schedule work assignments for high school interns at the New Museum. Under the supervision of the Associate Educator, the G:Class Assistant will mentor teen interns as they gain work experience and exposure to contemporary art and ideas.

The position hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tues-Fri July 9-August 17. The G:Class Assistant will be expected to be onsite during all program hours and attend three training days prior to the program, in addition to three post-program evaluation days. A stipend of $3,250 is offered for all work associated with the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Assist the Associate Educator in implementing the summer high school internship program
-Lead program activities including discussions about contemporary art, visits to other arts institutions, and workshops
-Coordinate intern schedules and organize field trips
-Correspond with New Museum staff to schedule career presentations
-Oversee intern’s involvement in New Museum summer community events
-Document program activities, organize photographs and post them to the web
-Process timecards and maintain contact with the Summer Youth Employment Program
-Help to manage program budget
-Organize and participate in program evaluation

QUALIFICATIONS
The qualified candidate must have a minimum of two years experience working with high school age students in an art-related setting. A B.A. or B.F.A, in art, art history, or related field required, an M.A. or M.F.A. preferred. Candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills with an advanced knowledge of and enthusiasm for contemporary art.
