The Cornell Fine Arts Museum is seeking eligible candidates for a Kress Interpretive Fellowship for 2013-14. The Kress Interpretive Fellowships aim to cultivate graduate students and young professionals interested in museum careers, focusing on curatorial and educational collaboration.
The Fellow’s activities will focus on research of the Cornell’s permanent collection and development of interpretive materials. Under the director’s supervision, s/he will conduct comprehensive research on select works from the collection; develop interpretive and didactic materials in collaboration with the Curator and Curator of Education; participate in training of docents in accordance with the research conducted; and develop two lectures or gallery talks to be presented in the museum. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to develop an exhibition concept to be presented to the Director and the Exhibitions Committee; if approved, it will be included in the schedule of exhibitions and the fellow will be invited to return as guest curator.
Eligible candidates will have an M.A. in art history (ABD or recent Ph.D. preferred), with a broad knowledge of art history and a research focus of either European art (any period from the Renaissance to the present) or American art.  Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate passion for, and creative ideas about, teaching in a museum environment.
The fellowship stipend for a 10 month period is $25,000, starting in September 2013. The fellow is expected to be in residence full time.
