The Visitor Studies Association (VSA) is a membership organization dedicated to understanding and enhancing learning experiences in informal settings through research, evaluation, and dialogue. We offer an array of services designed to foster evidence-based practice, including an annual conference, professional development workshops, and the peer-reviewed journal Visitor Studies. Through these and other activities, we help researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, organizational leaders, and funders advance the field of informal learning.

Job Description

The Visitor Studies Association (VSA) seeks a full-time Association Manager to manage the day-to-day operation of VSA and professionally implement and promote VSA’s programs and vision. Responsibilities fall into five categories:
(1) Association management;
(2) internal and external communications;
(3) committee support;
(4) conference planning and management and,
(5) budget and finance.
The successful candidate must be able to operate independently, manage a diverse set of tasks, and work with the Board of Directors to articulate and advance a clear vision.

Day-to-day activities may include: responding to inquiries by phone and/or e-mail; receiving, sorting, distributing, and responding to mail; maintaining financial and membership records; maintaining the Association’s membership database; overseeing conference and workshop registration and communication; maintenance of VSA website; and other administrative duties as determined by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in association and conference management, and in membership services. S/he should be a self-starter with a professional demeanor, positive attitude, and excellent organizational skills that support both detail-oriented and strategic thinking. Prior experience working with volunteers, a non-profit board, Federal grants and/or knowledge of informal learning environments are desirable attributes, but are not required.

Terms of Employment

This position will begin as a full-time contracted position, but the intention is to move to a full-time staff position. This is a home-based position.
