ANTIQUE BOAT MUSEUM SEEKS DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROGRAMMING
The Antique Boat Museum (ABM) in Clayton, New York, seeks a Director of
Public Programming (DPP) to lead the Museum¹s dynamic Public Programming
Department and to provide the vision to take the department to the next
level. The DPP has primary responsibility for providing the best
possible visitor experience at the ABM and elsewhere through the
effective and innovative management of staff responsible for the
Museum¹s collections, exhibitions, education programs, marine operations
and library and archives.
The Director of Public Programming reports to the Executive Director and
has primary responsibility for departmental strategic planning,
budgeting and sourcing of funds for collections, exhibitions and
education. In addition, the DPP is responsible for all aspects of
exhibit development, including strategic planning, budgeting,
development of exhibit themes, exhibit design and installation on-site,
off-site and on-line. The DPP supervises a staff comprised of 5 FTEs,
1PTE, 2 FT contractors and numerous seasonal staff and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Museum Studies
and 5 to 10 years museum experience or equivalent, and have demonstrated
experience with collections management and exhibit development in both a
supervisory and collaborative capacity. Extensive knowledge of
professional museum principles, practices, procedures and ethics is
required, and experience with collections preservation and is essential.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work both
independently and as part of a team, and will have persuasive oral and
written communication skills.

The Antique Boat Museum is the premier freshwater nautical museum in
North America with nearly 350 watercraft, an extensive in-water fleet,
and 20,000 square feet of exhibit space situated on a five-acre campus
on the St. Lawrence River in the beautiful Thousand Islands of New York
State.
