Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute is the oldest museum in the state of
New York. We are dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and
promoting interest in the history, art, and culture of Albany and the Upper
Hudson Valley. The museum achieves this mission through its collections,
exhibitions, education programs, library, research projects, publications,
and other programs offered to the general public.

Albany Institute education programs serve more than 10,000 students,
teachers, adult learners, and families every year. The education
department¹s mission is to connect our community to our collections and
exhibitions through lifelong learning opportunities.  We develop programs
for students and their teachers that provide formal learning experiences to
support their curricula and a full range of informal public programs for
our community that help people of all ages connect to arts and culture, to
each other and our shared histories.

The Museum Educator will work with the Director of Education and museum
staff to create, implement, and evaluate a broad array programs relevant to
collections and exhibitions. The successful candidate will join the Albany
Institute at an exciting time in its history, participating in a strategic
and interpretive planning initiative that will advance the Institute in our
third century of operation.

Responsibilities include:

·         Developing, presenting, and documenting object-based lessons in
galleries, in art studio, and with distance learning technology.

·         Family program planning and management includes budgeting,
reporting, and coordinating.

·         Studio classroom organization, maintenance, and supply inventory.

·         Maintaining electronic communication with audiences; drafting
text for public relations, website, and social media purposes.

·         Developing partnership programs and special projects for target
audiences including Girl Scouts.

·         Maintain the Children¹s Gallery, and develop new interactives for
the space.

·         Assist other Education Department and Albany Institute programs
as necessary.

The successful candidate will:

·         Be innovative, flexible, and a motivated team player;

·         Demonstrate understanding of learning theories and their
application;

·         Be familiar with museum culture, standards, and best practices.

·         Be able to interact professionally and appropriately with staff,
volunteers, and the public.

·         Be comfortable with technology, proficient in Microsoft Office,
Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, Outlook Email and Calendar, as well as social
media.

·         Be able to give feedback and share ideas appropriately and
professionally.

·         Communicate ideas in a clear and compelling manner, both verbally
and in writing, with demonstrated skill in written communications;

·         Possess the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
while remaining highly organized and detail oriented, with an ability to
handle shifting priorities;

·         Follow through independently on routine responsibilities;

·         Work effectively with museum visitors, members, volunteers, and
staff.

Requirements:

BA or BFA in museum education, visual art, history, or related field is
required; MFA, MA is preferred. Museum education experience and familiarity
with NYSED/National Education Standards preferred.

Physical requirements:

Often standing, carrying up to 50 lb., sitting, average walking, bending,
stooping, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, balancing, pushing and
pulling, crawling, computer, and phone tasks.
