Position Description: The Brooklyn Museum seeks an experienced and
forward-thinking museum professional whose art teaching skills will place
him/her at the center of the Museum’s programs and resources designed for
in-depth learning through art-making.As part of the Education Division, the
Senior Museum Educator will be responsible for conceiving, implementing,
and managing the Gallery/Studio Program, a series of art courses for
students ages six to adult that uses the Museum¹s collections as a resource
for developing students¹ own artistic practice. Responsibilities include
teaching classes in the program; recruiting, hiring, training, and
supervising a part-time staff of Teaching Artists and teens; course
development; preparing marketing materials; maintaining the program¹s
Facebook page; writing blog posts to promote the program and raise
awareness of art-making experiences at the Museum; installing three student
exhibitions annually; maintaining the art studios; administrative
oversight; and evaluation and assessment of the program. The Senior Museum
Educator will also be responsible for teaching school groups in the
galleries, assisting with the preparation of grant proposals and
establishing budgets; and participating in other Museum initiatives as time
permits. Collaboration with other Museum staff as well as outside
organizations is expected. The position is considered a mentoring position
for other educators in the institution. Individual will report to the Youth
and Family Programs Manager. Implementation of programs will require
weekend work.

Qualifications: Individual must have a MA/MFA and two to three years of
museum education experience as well as an active studio practice. Excellent
teaching, writing, organizational, and art-making skills are essential.
