The Foundation for the National Archives is seeking a full-time Grant Writer & Program Liaison. Join the Foundation for the National Archives team as our new Grant Writer & Program Liaison! The position will support the efforts of the Manager of Institutional Giving by researching, planning approaches to, and applying for grants from corporate and foundation sources. Additionally, this position will also interact with National Archives curatorial and education staff to craft program-specific language for other fundraising efforts, and ensure implementation of program grant and sponsorship benefits. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Developing, writing, assembling, and submitting all grant proposal components to foundations and other grant-making organizations, including letters of interest, a compelling and persuasive narrative, accurate budgets, and any supplemental materials;
  • Maintaining department calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports;
  • Preparing and submitting reports to grant makers and corporate sponsors;
  • Conducting high-level research to identify prospective corporate and foundation funders;
  • Prioritizing projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner;
  • Providing additional writing support of donor and member acknowledgements, and other correspondence for the development department as necessary; and,
  • Meeting with National Archives staff to monitor and support donor recognition implementation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • 3+ years experience in grant writing or similar nonprofit position, with the ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive proposals
  • Strong analytical and research skills, and attention to detail
  • Broad awareness of traditional fundraising strategies and techniques
  • Collegial working style and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Comfortable with deadline-driven responsibilities and the capacity to handle multiple assignments at one time
  • Ability to participate in evening/weekend events
  • A strong interest in American history, civic engagement and/or museums
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software preferred
