Academic Programs Coordinator [Shelburne Museum]

The academic programs coordinator leads Shelburne Museum’s educational programs for pre-k-16 school and educator audiences. Duties include, but are not limited to: program design, development and delivery; staff hiring, training and development; budget development and management; and program evaluation.
Programs:
• Passport to Learning – a workshop based program, especially for students grades k-8, offered throughout the calendar year serving approximately 10,000 students. In spring and fall, 10-12 sites on the museum grounds are staffed by a team of educators who conduct focused collections-based workshop explorations, linked to school curricula. During the winter season, workshops explore collections featured in the Museum’s Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education.
• Leap! (Learn and Play) Summer Camps –thematically based camps inspired by the museum’s permanent and special exhibitions for students ages 5-11.
• Partnership programs include work with Shelburne Nursery School, Mater Christi School in Burlington, and the Burlington School District. Educator open houses and professional development opportunities for k-12 educators. Tailored visitation programs for college and university level students.
Communications:
• In collaboration with education and marketing staffs manages education presence on museum website
• In collaboration with education and marketing staffs builds education presence on social media – Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and others
• Promotion of educational programs through development of print media strategies.
• Outreach to community, homeschooling families, public and private school administrators and faculty to encourage use of museum resources.
Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education, art education, or related, with coursework in history, art history or material culture desired; master’s degree preferred. Experience in formal and/or informal classroom settings – curriculum development, classroom management and understanding of educational theories and processes. Highly developed oral and written communications skills, comfort with public speaking and advocacy. Ability to both lead and be part of a collaborative team work environment. Patience and sense of humor a must. Comfort with Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel and Power Point, ability to quickly learn scheduling software, database software and other technology tools. Some weekend and evening hours required.
