Job Title: Public Program Coordinator
FLSA: Full Time (40 Hours), Exempt
Reporting to: Director of Visitor Services

Key Responsibilities:
 Coordinate with the Director of Visitor Services on the maintenance and development of a comprehensive
floor demonstration program.
 Responsible for the development, training and delivery of high quality, engaging floor demonstrations and
live science programs for the Visitor Services staff on the gallery floors and as needed for corporate and
special events. In addition to managing the Gallery Science budget lines. Focusing on the early learning
audiences for young children and their parents.
 Serves as liaison with the Programs Department to integrate and support the science content of school
programs into the VS floor demonstrations and other live science programs.
 Evaluates all VS staff that participates in the live science programs. Regularly seeks ways to improve the
delivery and communication skills of the VS floor staff delivering the programs.
 Creates floor demonstrations, gallery classes, birthday activities, and large audience stage shows as well
as all associated training materials for the VS staff. Regularly executes formal and informal training and
coaching sessions for the VS staff to ensure consistent, high quality live science programs.
 Manages all live science inventories and replenish as necessary.
 Responsible for the daily reporting of gallery science as well as quarterly and year-end reports.
 Organize and coordinate corporate partners involving Live science on the gallery floors
 Must be comfortable on camera and able to represent the live demonstrations and the science center in the
media, at press conferences and in frequent entertainment media/local news outlets.
 Actively participates in a culture of continuous improvements seeking and suggesting ways to better
respond to visitor needs.
 Solicits and records visitor feedback, suggestions, complaints, and compliments about their experiences at
the Science Center. Makes certain that VS staff is constantly seeking this feedback from visitors as well.
Makes management aware of such feedback.
 Using best judgment, and discretion, responds to visitor situations, and helps fellow staff do the same,
calling upon the assistance of higher management when appropriate.
 Continuously expands personal knowledge about the Science Center, its services and offerings through
active participation in training, staying abreast of institutional news in Science Center publications and other
communications tools, including asking questions of staff and supervisors.
 Performs other duties as required by management

Qualifications & Special Requirements:
 BA/BS is required. Science background/training is highly preferable as is previous experience organizing
and presenting programs for the public in science centers or museums. Education background a plus.  High energy, enthusiastic, customer-centered acumen is essential. Must possess superior interpersonal
and communications skills, as well as the ability to work with the public which requires a high degree of
patience and the ability to maintain a calm exterior during periods of high volume, high stress, or unusual
events.
 Must possess ability to serve in a leadership role, providing coaching, direction and guidance to team
members, leading by example, and ability to use discretion to handle and resolve complex and high
pressure visitor experience situations.
 Requires a flexible schedule and ability to work weekends, holidays, and some evening hours.
 Ability to stand for extended periods of time (minimum of 4 hours). Ability to lift/push/pull up to 40 lbs.
