Harpers Ferry Center in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, has created a variety of interpretive tools to assist NPS field interpreters. These tools include publications, wayside exhibits, audiovisual programs, museum exhibits, and historic furnishings. The Center also provides a variety of services: interpretive planning, conservation of objects, audiovisual equipment repair, graphics research, replacement of wayside exhibits, and the revision and reprinting of publications.

This position is located in the Media Development Group, Harpers Ferry Center (HFC), Harpers Ferry, WV.   The primary role of the unit is to manage and track all the interpretive media projects that are accepted by the Center and provide media technical services to the National Park Service (NPS) parks and regions.   This includes providing project management, media Contract Officer’s Technical Representatives (COR), and other specific media technical services necessary to scope, plan, and resource project teams.

You will work within a project-managed environment, for which work is contracted to commercial media planning, design, fabrication, and other media development firms. As an exhibit producer, you will be responsible for managing the successful performance of these firms. You will also manage the contracted fabrication and development of both indoor and outdoor exhibits, and interpretive and VIS (informational) waysides. Indoor exhibits may include three-dimensional structures, “immersive” environments, historically furnished rooms or vignettes, panel graphics, and specialized exhibit components such as artifact cases, dioramas, models, interactive devices and programs, audiovisual elements, and exhibit lighting. Outdoor exhibits are extensions of indoor interpretive themes carried to outdoor settings. Interpretive or informational waysides may include complex panel layouts, maps, tactile elements, or audio messages presented at multiple sites throughout a park.
