The Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM) seeks a 20 hour/week Collection Manager for the period July, 2014 through June, 2015. The Collection Manager will be responsible for conducting a one-year project that will focus on the completion of a permanent collection database. This project will include object inventory, accurate and precise data management across digital and paper platforms, digital text and image input, and software updates. The Collection Manager will also help FAM’s Associate Curator and Director to analyze the permanent collection, and to make recommendations for a forthcoming Collection Plan and Collection Management Policy. Some additional registrarial work will be required. Candidates are expected to commit to the full year of the project. Work hours are flexible within the work week. The Collection Manager will report to the Associate Curator, and will also work closely with eminent Consulting Curators of African Art and Photography, along with a small but passionately devoted professional staff. FAM is located on a city block in downtown Fitchburg, in North Central Massachusetts. Its varied collection of over 4,000 objects includes Egyptian, Classical, Asian, European, and American art, with particular strengths in African Art and photography. FAM has 12,000 square feet of exhibition space in 12 public galleries, presents three major special exhibitions annually, and periodically re-installs selected permanent collection galleries. FAM is under new leadership, and seeks to achieve excellence as a community-oriented museum serving Fitchburg, its surrounding cities and towns, and the central New England region. The successful candidate must have museum, library, or archive registration/ documentation experience, a broad general knowledge of art history, and familiarity with digital collection database management and art handling. Experience with EmbARK is a plus. The Collection Manager is also expected to be highly organized, self motivated, and goal oriented. BA or graduate degree is required.
