The Museums of Los Gatos is looking for a recent graduate for the Assistant Curator entry-level position at the Art Museum of Los Gatos. The Assistant Art Curator provides curatorial support for the day-to-day operations of the Art Museum.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage social media and weekly news blast via Mail Chimp.
Assist with Museum events, tours, and special programming. Offer tours to patrons, members, and classes as needed.
Design postcards, banners, and any other graphic material needed for exhibitions or events. Correspond with printers to order and ensure quality of printed media.
Docent during open hours Thursday, Friday, and 1 weekend day from noon to 4pm every week during exhibitions.
Assist the Art Curator in the installation / de-installation of art exhibitions and educational programming for the museum.
Routinely monitor website and work with the web manager to make updates and changes.
Serve as the main point of contact for student and educator participants of the Annual High School juried Art Exhibition. Write and distribute all updates, instructions, and communications for the show.
Organize and structure the submission process, files to jury, and intake/ pick up processes of the High School Show.
Create the yearly High School Juried Exhibition Catalogue.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: B.A. in Art, Design, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Work Experience: 1-3 years in an art or design related field

Skills and Abilities:

Strong organization skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player.
Familiarity and knowledge of basic museum practices a plus.
Required Computer Skills:
Comfortable with Mac platform
Microsoft Office: Excel and Word
Facebook / Twitter / Mail Chimp
Those interviewed will be expected to demonstrate a technical coherency Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Bridge
Video editing skills a plus but not required

The ideal candidate will be will be self-motivated and comfortable working in an often fast-paced environment that requires multitasking, time management, and attention to detail. Communication is an essential part of this position, so candidates should be confident in their ability to concisely group and clearly deliver information in all communications. An interest in museum studies, art education, and the visual arts is also highly useful, though not required.

Job Details

The position is 30 hours per week with a schedule set upon hire. 1 weekend day per week will be required. This position is located at the Art Museum of Los Gatos.
