The Education Specialist is responsible for leading the Society’s initiatives in education, learning and gallery interpretation. Responsibilities include the development, implementation and assessment of all Society educational programming for young and adult learners, both in-house and through outreach. This position is also responsible for the overall development, implementation and assessment of the Society’s interpretive program, working collaboratively across departments to enhance the visitor experience and promote self-directed learning in the galleries.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in education or museum education field.
3 or more years of progressive leadership in a related field.
Developing and managing school programs in an art museum or similar non-profit institution is preferred.
Working knowledge of current museum teaching strategies and learning theory.
Experience working with the public, specifically children.
Highly motivated and energetic with an ability to adapt to change.
Superior written, verbal and listening skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Able to pass all criminal background check and drug testing.
Florida Educator Certification required.

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Specialist will work with the Curator and Director of Programs to develop, implement and assess the Society’s educational programs, outreach, lectures and workshops for young and adult learners. In addition, the Education Specialist will be responsible for developing and overseeing the volunteer docent program for all three of the Society’s museums and scheduling and leading group tours.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and evaluate educational programs, lectures and workshops.
Develop and lead outreach initiative throughout Monroe County School District.
Schedule and lead group tours.
Network with community partners to diversify educational offerings.
Work with the Development Director to locate and secure new granting opportunities and foundation support.
Work with the Curator on exhibition interpretation.
Assist with the Education Department’s budget preparation and oversight.
Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Society.
