The Columbus Museum of Art (Columbus, Ohio) seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, and highly-motivated individual to provide direction and vision for all preK-12 initiatives at CMA as well as alternate and out-of-school learning experiences for preK-12 audiences. In addition, the Manager for Strategic Learning Partnerships must cultivate meaningful relationships with schools, educators and students, and develop, implement, assess and sustain programs, partnerships and resources for these audiences. This position works in a highly collaborative environment as a strategic thinker, facilitator, and mentor around a multitude of Museum learning initiatives. The Manager for Strategic Learning Partnerships is a leader within the Learning and Experience Department at CMA, and acts as a change maker and advocate for educators in the central Ohio community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coaches and mentors a team of teaching artists and program coordinators to develop knowledge of teaching/learning pedagogy and skills; professionalism; communication and collaboration with partners; and museum collections and exhibitions. Manages all programs facilitated by this team including early childhood programs, elementary-age partnerships, middle school programs, teen initiatives, after-school learning labs, and future partnerships.
Advocates for teachers within museum and advocates for museum with teachers.
Builds strong working relationships with educators of all types and other partners including schools, teachers, pre-service teachers, students, administrators, and other cultural organizations. Identifies needs and opportunities with these partners and collaborates to develop programs and resources.
Works closely with the Director of Learning/Experience to continually develop and communicate vision for a multitude of learner-oriented programs.
Develops and implements a range of professional development opportunities at CMA and off-site. Coaches and mentors educators as needed.
Encourages and sustains an environment of reflective teaching practice. Oversees program outcome development, guides team through reflection, and leads evaluation efforts.
Collaborates with Development Department and Director of Learning/Experience to seek funding, write grant proposals and reports, and manage evaluation for programs.
Manages multiple administrative aspects of programming including developing calendars, budgets, curriculum, resources, and evaluation.
Develops resources in response to current educational needs and issues aligning with CMA’s and the Center for Creativity’s mission, values, and guiding principles. Responsibilities include ongoing communications with educators; development and dissemination of rubrics and evaluation tools; online communications; and updates on the museum website. Collaborates with Marketing Department to publicize and market these materials and programs.
Acts as museum representative/advocate at local, regional and national conferences and platforms. Creates professional presentations to disseminate information to a multitude of audiences.
Job Requirements
Qualified candidates must have an undergraduate humanities degree and three to five years of experience teaching in museums or other informal educational settings. Master’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies, education or related field preferred. Additionally, candidates should:

Have experience as the leader of a team and mentor/coach in a professional setting.
Have demonstrated ability to generate ideas, develop creative programs and take risks.
Exhibit passion, humility, sense of humor and love of learning.
Have demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with staff and public through speaking and writing, especially with administrators and educators.
Have demonstrated planning, organizational, leadership, programming, teaching and budgeting skills.
Have deep knowledge of current educational issues and trends, including Common Core, 21st century skills, emergent curriculum, reflective practice, tenets of progressive education, connected learning/HOMAGO, and the role of museums in the 21st century.
Be available to work evening and weekend hours.
