Position Title: Membership Manager
Reports to: Director of External Relations
Position Status: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
Applicable Physical Capabilities: General mobility throughout the museum
The ICA’s lively membership program aims to enhance the ICA experience for individuals and families to engage in the best of contemporary art and visual culture. Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Membership Manager develops and maintains an exciting and rewarding membership program, which include incentives like free admission, invitations to member events and reciprocal memberships throughout greater Boston. In addition to creating a rewarding program for our members, the Membership Manager implements and evaluates renewal and acquisitions programs to reach museum revenue goals. With excellent customer-service skills, the Membership Manager connects with and understands the interests of our community of members.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan that will engage new members, retain current members and map-out a multi-year strategy for membership growth.
- Analyze membership initiatives currently offered by the ICA and peer institutions; conduct competitive analysis and benchmarking to develop benefits and programming reflective of local and national trends.
- Oversee long-range delivery of quality service to all Museum members through membership sales and benefits fulfillment.
- Develop strategies and the solicitation calendar for membership acquisition and renewal efforts including direct mail, on-site initiatives, and telemarketing.
- Identifying prospective audiences for acquisition and developing strategies to increase retention.
- Collaborate with Development department to create a pipeline of candidates to move from Membership to Director’s Circle.
- Oversee the University Partner membership program, develop plan to grow membership, and fulfill benefits for university partners.
- Report accurate Membership financial information to the Director of External Relations and CFO and others as appropriate.
- Develop a comprehensive on-site membership strategy and work with Admissions and Box Office Manager to implement plans and meet monthly goals.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to execute new initiatives to stimulate membership and develop cross-promotional partnerships and reciprocal programs with internal departments, local businesses and peer institutions.
- Work with the Special Events department to develop an exciting events program that engages current members and is attractive to potential members.
- Manage Membership Assistant
- Oversee and manage the membership program’s budget.
- Attend all membership events and act as face of membership program.
- Occasional nights and weekend hours as needed for events
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Bachelor´s degree in Art History, Museum Studies or related field
- 5 + years of membership administration experience in a museum or cultural institution
- Fluency in MS Office and donor database software; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
- Knowledge of best practices and innovative strategies in membership programs and experience in the use of multi-channel marketing, direct mail, renewals, on-site sales, telemarketing etc.
- A collaborative nature to effectively work cross-departmentally
- Commitment to excellent member service at all levels; ability to problem-solve quickly as needed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze appeal performance and report revenue
- Strong project management skills
- An interest in contemporary art is preferred
