The Desert Caballeros Western Museum seeks a dynamic and energetic leader to enhance the Museum’s vision to be a nationally recognized center for Western art, history and culture.  The AAM accredited Museum is located in the Sonoran Desert in historic Wickenburg, Arizona which is approximately 60 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix and is a unique part of the West Valley area. It is nationally known for its annual Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West event, highlighting over 50 female artists annually.

Exhibitions and programs focus on the art and history of the Old West, New West and Next West , examining the Western lifestyle throughout history and in present day with an eye to the future. DCWM facilities include the main museum, a Learning Center and the Boyd Ranch property used for programs and events related to ranching history. The Museum had 70,000 visitors last year and has a full time staff of 9, part time staff of 6 and an operating budget of $1.475 million.

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate success with financial and human resource management and experience with Western collections, exhibitions, programs and event development. She/he will also have demonstrated experience with fundraising and board relations.  Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in museum or other nonprofit upper level management is required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, an advanced degree is highly preferred. Salary is competitive and a full benefit package is included. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check; EOE.
