The Manager of School, Youth, and Family Programs will develop, coordinate, implement, and manage education programs for students, teens, educators, and families, in conjunction with museum exhibitions. This position is responsible for developing and managing all educational initiatives in the museum, and then evaluating and assessing the programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement school, youth, professional development, and family programs including scheduling, planning, execution, and evaluation (including maintaining statistics and tracking attendance)
  • Create and monitor budgets
  • Hire, train, supervise and develop workstudy students and volunteers
  • Participate actively as part of Exhibitions, Collections, and Programs team in overall planning of department’s activities
  • Create activities for educators and facilitate professional development programs

 

Programs to Supervise Include:

  • Programs for Students and Educators
    • Plan and implement programs for students and educators
    • Plan and facilitate school group visits
    • Write and edit pre- and post- visit materials
  • Programs for Youth:
    • Drive youth programs
    • Create resources and materials especially targeted for teens
  • Programs for Families:
    • Drive all ongoing family programs and events
    • Write funding reports for education grants
    • Complete annual report for all School, Youth, and Family programs

Supervision:

  • Reports to Deputy Director of Exhibitions, Collections, and Programs
  • Supervises work study students and volunteers

Job Requirements

General Requirements:

  • Educational Background and Degree:
    • BA (or equivalent combination of education and knowledge), knowledge of contemporary art, and experience with education programs in a museum environment are required
    • MA in art history, education, or related field is highly desirable
    • Experience and Training:
      • Museum education experience (typically 3-5 years)
      • Experience in organizing new initiatives
      • Experience working with all ages in a museum and art context
      • Experience working with community-based organizations
      • Verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to manage multiple activities/programs simultaneously
      • Ability to perform under pressure
      • Specific Knowledge, Abilities and/or Skills
        • Administrative abilities
        • PC literate (various programs)
        • Excellent oral and written communication skills
