Located in the center of the creative capital of the world, LACMA is riding a wave of incredible momentum. Since 2007 the museum has doubled its campus, doubled its exhibition program and doubled its attendance. It has accomplished this through a comprehensive transformation that has included new buildings, a series of collection-changing art acquisitions and a visionary path to the future set out by its director and board of trustees.

LACMA is seeking an experienced fund raiser with entrepreneurial skills and a passionate commitment to art museums. LACMA Development is responsible for securing more than $20,000,000 for annual operating and project support. Of this amount, approximately $12,000,000 comes from individuals. The development department also has benchmarks to meet for art acquisitions and campaign revenue. The LACMA Transformation Campaign has raised $338,000,000 in capital gifts since 2004, and is in the process of quietly raising $100 million to set the stage for launching a larger campaign within the next 12 – 24 months.

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Associate Vice President of Individual Giving manages a comprehensive and integrated fundraising program which is intended to develop individual contributed income sources for the Museum’s capital campaign. The AVP is responsible for the fundraising of individual six- and seven-figure gifts for LACMA, and has oversight of annual giving donor programs at the $1,250 level and above. In addition, the AVP implements tactics to support overall campaign strategy and build a major donor base. The Associate Vice President of Individual Giving supervises and provides work direction to the Major Gifts Officers, the Director of Annual Giving Programs and the Director of Collections Development and Exhibition Support.

Some duties include: researches, cultivates and solicits major donors and manages donor portfolios; recommends and develops donor cultivation strategies with VP of Development and colleagues in various departments museum-wide; works alongside VP of Development to staff board relationships; monitors and organizes aspects of the capital and endowment campaigns; directly manages cultivation, solicitations and benefits fulfillment for Director’s Circle, a leadership giving group at the $5,000 – $25,000 range; develops and tracks campaign budget and revenue projections, and manages required expenditures within approved budget; oversees implementation of donor reconciliation efforts for both campaign and annual support; develops marketing materials for various fundraising programs.

Job Requirements

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts or related field, and 8 to 10 years of demonstrated, successful fundraising experience. Experience with capital and endowment campaigns is required, as well as at least 3 years of management and supervisory experience. Knowledge or experience in the arts is strongly preferred.
