Job Summary:  The Membership Manager is responsible for developing a wide range of membership acquisition and retention programs.  This position oversees the membership program and serves as a primary contact for Frist Center members, working closely with other staff to develop communications methods, membership materials, and special member programs to enhance member relations.  This position manages the Assistant Membership Manager.

 

The following duties are normal for this classification.   These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.   Other duties may be required and assigned.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Works with the Director of Development and Assistant Director of Development to develop short and long-range membership goals, programs, and activities to enhance community ownership of the Frist Center;
  • Designs and implements membership acquisition strategies including development of membership materials, direct mail, and other direct marketing activities;
  • Utilizes technology and social media in the membership process from acquisition to retention;
  • Oversees Raiser’s Edge database system to track members, member visits to the Frist Center, member giving patterns, retention, and to evaluate membership trends;
  • Manages and maintains accurate records on membership, including acknowledgements, membership income reports, mailing lists, membership lists for publications, and other reports as needed;
  • Processes new/renewed membership gifts and develops benefit materials;
  • Understands mailing procedures, i.e. bulk mailing codes, etc.;
  • Develops programs to track, evaluate, and enhance member involvement in special programs of the Frist Center;
  • Manages annual Frist Fridays concert series including booking bands and overseeing coordination each event;
  • Addresses all concerns and questions of members with sensitivity to customer while keeping best interests of organization in mind;
  • Manages and executes the FCVA annual fund campaign; sets strategy to grow annual revenue from annual appeal;
  • Works effectively with volunteers in development capacity;
  • Oversees the management of membership front desk, membership services, benefits, and policies including coordination with Visitor Services for front of house service;
  • Prepares and manages membership budget;
  • Work with volunteers in a positive and constructive manner;
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the Director of Development.

Job Requirements

Education:  B.A./B.S. degree or higher, or equivalent professional/leadership training in the field.

 

Work Experience: Three to five years experience overseeing museum membership programs is required. Raiser’s Edge and Altru systems’ experience is required.

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Proven track record of strategically growing an effective membership base, including high rate of retention with ability to define, design, implement and manage creative membership programs to support the Frist Center’s stated mission;
  • Ability to effectively represent the Frist Center to donors and potential donors, and the general public locally, regionally, and nationally;
  • Excellent personal and social skills, outgoing personality, decorum, and discretion;
  • Excellent planning, organization and written skills;
  • Ability to work creatively, cooperatively, and effectively with all Center staff as well as within the Development Department to support Frist Center programs.
  • Some evenings and weekends required.
