Danforth Art Museum seeks interns for spring and summer 2015 for an ongoing initiative to make the Museum’s holdings of works, studies, and ephemera by sculptor Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller (American, 1877-1968) more accessible to the public. Specific duties include physical examination of individual works, data collection and entry into Filemaker Pro database system, preparation of archival photographs of objects, and the research and preparation of didactic information for an ongoing exhibition of Fuller’s work.

Interns will be trained in art handling, the creation of condition reports, and all aspects of data collection and entry. Interns will report to the registrar but will also work with the curator and may be called on to help with larger institution-wide projects and events as needed. Currently this position is unpaid but available for course credit.

Donated to the Museum in 2006 and established as a special collection in 2014, the Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller Special Collection consists of numerous objects of art, artifacts, and ephemera by Fuller in addition to works by her students. Fuller is considered a precursor to the Harlem Renaissance known for her groundbreaking depictions of the African-American experience, who taught or inspired later 20th century artists. This collection expands upon better-known aspects of her oeuvre.
