Assists supervisor in all museum shop activities. Provides friendly and welcoming presence in all public spaces within the museum.

Responds to customer inquiries regarding products, museum activities, programs and events. Always greets the customer with a smile and pleasant manner.  Takes the time to acknowledge customers even if they do not need assistance. Operates computer/cash register, processes sales and other retail transactions.

Addresses customer complaints and resolves problems. Directly supervises as many as six employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the museum’s policies and applicable laws.

Assists with sales associate training. Assists Shop Supervisor with planning, assigning, scheduling and directing work.  Reads product material and remains informed of the various products available in all the shops.

Relates product knowledge to staff and to customers. Monitors inventory levels. Orders product from stockroom to maintain adequate inventory levels in shops. Checks in deliveries from stockroom.

Assists Shop Supervisor with visual merchandising. Works independently and with sales associates to maintain shop in a clean and orderly fashion.  Accurately completes required sales report at end of day and prepares bank deposits.

Qualifications:

Previous retail experience required. General knowledge of standard retail concepts and an interest in customer service and visual merchandising. Basic computer skills required. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, solve practical problems, and to interpret written and oral instructions and follow directions. Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from managers, customers, and general public.
