Position Title: Coordinator, Early Childhood Programs (Grant-funded Position – Duration 1-Year)

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Interpretation and Program Evaluation

Position Objective:

Under the direction of the Director of Interpretation and Program Evaluation, the Coordinator will support the Education

Department with a wide range of administrative and programmatic tasks. In particular, he/she will act as the project

coordinator and lead educator for Creative Play, a new family program series that enhances the Museum’s ongoing on-
site weekend programs in art, science and cultural education, specifically targeting families with three to five year olds in

Newark’s South Ward and the greater Newark region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Coordinates/schedules space, materials and staffing needs for Creative Play programs; ensures evaluation instruments

and components are delivered and gathered; coordinates off-site programs including arranging for participant travel to

the Museum.

● Develops, facilitates and evaluates on and off-site Creative Play programming.

● Works with the education team to identify and implement best practices in early learning across all school, youth and

family programs.

● Works with the education team to coordinate logistics and supplies for programs that serve early learners and their

care-givers.

● Maintains detailed and accurate attendance records for Creative Play Programming.

● Works with facilities and visitor services in order to ensure a positive experience for early learners and their care-
givers.

● Participates in Education meetings and professional development sessions.

● Must be available to work Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule, with additional hours for family festivals

and evening events as needed.

● Other duties as assigned to meet the mission of the organization

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree

● 4+ years of teaching/curriculum development experience in school or museum setting

● 2+ years experience coordinating and supervising programs and/or administrative experience.

● Experience working with early learners in an urban environment.

● Familiarity with the Newark Museum’s collection a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Proven track record of utilizing cross-institutional resources

● Proven knowledge of current museum, art and art education practices, and curriculum development

● Must be detailed oriented with excellent customer service skills

● Proven ability to succeed within a collaborative work environment

● Experience with intergenerational informal learning

● Demonstrated success managing large events or programs.

● Must have good communication, organizational and management skills
