The Martha’s Vineyard Art Association is seeking a Gallery Assistant for the 2015 Summer Season. This Part-time position begins Memorial Day Weekend and goes through Columbus Day Weekend. Responsibilities include: installation of artwork, customer service and sales, coordination of weekly openings and Special Events, and gallery data entry. Other responsibilities may include: monitoring the gallery’s social platforms, monitoring and adding to the gallery’s website, designing advertisements, creating condition reports for the all of the gallery’s artwork, digitizing archive materials, and any additional writing and research that the gallery may need.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree and retail experience. Art handling experience a plus. Minimum professional work experience: 3-5 years required. Excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of art mediums and ability to articulate and sell artwork to customers. Attention to detail. Flexibility to work with numerous personalities. Ability to collaborate well. Good sense of humor and positive attitude! Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere that is welcoming to everyone who enters, from board member to artist member to patron. Particular preference will be given to individuals with retail experience as well as some non-profit experience (either as volunteer or professionally). Applicants must provide their own housing on the island.

The Martha’s Vineyard Art Association (MVAA) was established in 1954. Our mission is two-fold: To support island artist members and to support and promote art education. The MVAA also has an extensive permanent collection, that is put on display in our island gallery. Located in a historic whale oil loft on the beautiful Edgartown waterfront. We are open seasonally from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.
