ART HANDLER: Historical Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts seeks to fill the
position of temporary Art Handler, responsible for the transport and care of its collection.
This is a temporary, short-tem, non-benefited position. Qualifications: Reporting to the
Curator, the Art Handler will work primarily on transferring potentially fragile works of art
and archival materials from space to space in perfect condition, including meticulously
disassembling and packaging pieces, securing them safely, unloading, carrying the
pieces to their destination, maintaining inventory and re-housing objects. Candidates
must have the ability to lift overhead and/or carry artifacts, exhibit cases, supplies, and
boxes weighing 25 pounds. This position requires climbing ladders, walking up and
down stairs and handling a variety of fragile and delicate art objects including sculpture,
paintings, decorative arts, rare books, photography, and textiles. Ideally, the candidate
will have some prior museum collections care and packing experience and basic
knowledge of computer databases. Excellent organizational and communication skills,
ability to work as part of a team, and attention to detail are a must. Pay range: $17.00
to 20.00/hour dependening on experience. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30
a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with some flexibility. Work Period: Late May, 2011 through the end of
