*Background

*The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), founded in 1914, has a world-class
collection of modern and contemporary art, and is recognized internationally
for its comprehensive collection of works by 20th-century master Henri
Matisse. It has an annual operating budget of $13 million, and an endowment
of $65 million. The BMA is embarking on an exciting new era with the
reintroduction free admission and the largest endowment and comprehensive
campaign in its history underway. The BMA is committed to a work environment

*Description

*The Baltimore Museum of Art is seeking an experienced museum educator to
directs the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy for

PreK-12 student, teacher, and docent programs and resources that align with

schools educational goals and the BMAs vision, mission, and impact

statement. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Education & Interpretation,
this senior-level position ensures that school programs are intentional,
imaginative, and well-designed and analyzes the effectiveness and impact of
programs through research and evaluation. This position plays a leadership
role in docent training, the development of written and digital educational
materials, and the cultivation of strategic partnerships.

*Responsibilities

Vision and Strategy*: Shapes a vision for a creative, relevant, accessible,
and integrated museum experiences that engage PreK-12 audiences with the

Museums collections and exhibitions on- and off-site. Identifies measureable

outcomes, success criteria, and planning and assessment tools. With the
Deputy Director for Education & Interpretation and the Director of Public
Programs, is part of an education leadership team that establishes
priorities for the department.

* Leadership and Staff Development*: Supervises the Manager of School
Programs, Manager for Teacher Programs and Resources, Education Coordinator,
and 125 volunteer docents. Stays current with educational policies and
practices that affect Museum/school partnerships and learning. Provides
inspiring leadership through coaching, mentoring, and professional
development, sharing new research and models with education colleagues.

* Docent Program*: Oversees the development of effective strategy,

structure, policies, and procedures for the BMAs volunteer docent program.

Introduces, facilitates, and manages improvements and modifications to
strengthen program and align with best practices. With the Manager of School
Programs, conceptualizes, develops, and implements new and ongoing docent
education to ensure docents have the knowledge and skills to engage visitors
of all ages and backgrounds with the BMA collection and exhibitions. Models
effective dialogue-based teaching strategies and coaches docents as needed.
Recruits new docents.

* PreK-12 Partnerships and Programs*: Initiates and cultivates the
development of partnerships between the Museum and the PreK-12 community,
including regional schools, colleges and universities, social service
agencies, cultural institutions, and others. Ensures that partnerships are
being implemented with a high standard of excellence and refine/revise
future programming with partners as needed.

* Educational Resources: *Develops and implements strategy for printed and
digital resources for PreK-12 audiences. Reviews and edits all printed and
digital material for students, teachers, and docents. Designs and produces
resources for docents including gallery lessons, activities, and study and
training materials.

* Research and Evaluation*: In consultation with the Deputy Director for
Education, oversees the research and evaluation of PreK-12 school programs

and resources to measure the impact of programs and ensure that established
outcomes are being met. Leads cross-departmental team review of programs to

evaluate and improve processes, content, communication, staffing, and other
issues. Collaborates with professional evaluators, researchers, and other
consultants. Documents and shares findings with museum staff and the museum
field at large through conference presentations, articles, and reports.

* Cross-Divisional and External Communication and Collaboration*: Oversees
consistent communication to the PreK-12 educational community at the city,
state, and national level. Represents and communicates the value of the BMA
at key education meetings, conferences, and other community events.
Collaborates with visiting artists, scholars, community organizations, and
other external partners to develop program content. Communicates PreK-12
strategy to colleagues across the institution at all-colleague, exhibition,
and project meetings. Works closely with Curatorial, Marketing &
Communications, Development, and Finance colleagues.

* Administration, Budgets, and Reporting*: Prepares budgets and monitors
expenses for all School and Teacher Programs. Establishes standard costs for
PreK-12 resources and programs. Prepares monthly reports of events and
attendance including narrative and or budget reports when appropriate.
Assists with the preparation of grants and the cultivation of funders and
stakeholders.

*Qualifications

*Masters degree in Art History, Education, or related field

10+ years museum education and supervisory experience

Proven record of team development, strategic thinking, vision, and
leadership Solid understanding of art history, education theory,
methodology, and practice Experience in museum evaluation and research,
education program and resource development, and project management
Outstanding gallery teaching, public speaking, and writing skills Excellent
interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and communicate
effectively within the Education Department, across the Museum, and within
the community Experience with emerging technologies in museum education
