Museum Manager
Overview:

The Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon is a not-for-profit play place, offering a wide range of educational exhibits and activities for children of all ages. The Children’s Museum is located on Main Street in downtown Pendleton.

The Museum Manager for the Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon understands and promotes the mission of CMEO. S/he is a well-organized self-starter who oversees and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Museum under the direction of the Executive Director. The Museum Manager reports directly to and communicates fully and frequently with the Executive
Director.

Major Areas of Accountability:
Day-to-Day Leadership and Management
–Provides supervision and leadership to staff and volunteers
–Works with the Program Manager to assure proper staffing during all open hours
–Serves as a back up to the Program Manager when needed.
–Oversees Program Manager in the development of a volunteer staffing program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, motivation, and retention of volunteers
–Oversees the store. Responsible for ordering and maintaining all retail operations with a competitive product array and budget compliance.
–Works with the Program Manager to ensure the consistent delivery of the highest levels of customer service by all employees, volunteers, and representatives of the museum.
–Works with the Program Manager to plan, schedule, publicize and carryout all museum programming including week classes, special events and camps.
–Manages the daily and weekly cleaning schedule.
–Maintains the museum’s computerized database for keeping track of all museum information.
–Ensures that all employees and volunteers strictly adhere to financial policies, procedures, and reporting, where appropriate.

Resource Development
–Oversees and organizes the Museum’s annual fundraiser, the Wiener Dog Race.
–Develops relationships within the community to support fundraising, donations, partnerships, and memberships.
— Maintains relationships with the membership to ensure retention and referrals to increase the number of memberships.

Marketing
–Ensures all programs, special events, or new exhibits are advertised.
–Ensures that website is maximized, current, and fully utilized as a marketing and communication tool
–Develops programs to enhance the visibility of the museum.
–Ensures all museum handouts, brochures and informational materials are kept up-to-date with accurate information.

Community Relations
–Represents CMEO in the community and serve as museum spokesperson
–Maintains a regular presence at the museum, establishing a relationship with visitors and volunteers
–Maintains a safe, friendly, organized, and clean museum which is kept in good repair and fully staffed
–Attends community events as the museum representative with appropriate museum information and handouts.

This job description is intended to hi-light key expectations and functions of the Museum Manager. Due to the level of management, it is understood that the Museum Manager will work outside this job description as needed by the organization. It is understood that a leader of this level will be an initiator, global thinker and will be highly self-motivated.

Compensation: $13.50/hour for 30 hours a week. Variable hours. Must be available weekends. Position open until filled. Start date: August 15.
