Serving as the creative and visionary voice of all exhibitions and the
professional steward of the permanent collection. Works closely with the
Executive Director and key programmatic staff and directs all aspects of
annual exhibitions program. As Stamford’s art museum, set in an
expansive nature center with working farm, the SM&NC exhibition thematic
focus includes a pallet of fine art, popular and contemporary culture,
natural history, agriculture, science, history and astronomy targeted to
family audiences and varied interests. The Curator coordinates with
guest curators and/or organizing entities from contract through
successful implementation. Serves as spokesperson in the interpretation
of exhibitions and/or collections to the media and general public. Is
responsible for the overall care and management of the museum’s
collections, including documentation, safe keeping, storage, handling,
conservation and interpretation. For in-house exhibitions, researches
topics, defines themes, identifies supporting materials, creates
checklists, drafts interpretive text and labels and manages all
installations. Leadership & Management – 20%, Annual Public Exhibition
Program – 60%, Collections Management – 20%

Minimum five years relevant professional curatorial and collections
experience preferably in the museum field. Minimum BA in art history,
anthropology, museum or cultural studies – MA preferred. Must possess
mature, professional, respectful demeanor with key contacts acting with
discretion, confidentiality, be an excellent communicator — oral and
written, ability to multi-task, think creatively, understand strategic
planning and policy implementation, have excellent research skills, be
able to interact seamlessly with all departments, lead task forces or
programmatic initiatives and serve on leadership team. Position reports
