Education Coordinator
Job Description
The American Antiquarian Society (AAS), an independent research library founded in 1812, seeks an Education Coordinator. This is a full-time, grant funded, one-year position whose principal function is to coordinate a program for teacher development entitled Securing the Blessings of Liberty. This project funded by the Federal Department of Education under the auspices of the Teaching American History program provides comprehensive professional development for all fifth grade, special needs and high school instructors of United States History in the Worcester Public School System. Old Sturbridge Village, and Worcester State College are also collaborating partners in the Securing the Blessings of Liberty program. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the promotion and administration of all aspects of this project as well as supporting the advancement and administration of the Society’s K-12 initiatives generally.
Specific duties will include:
Work collaboratively with historians and institutional partners to develop workshops, institutes, and graduate level classes
Interface with teachers, administrators, and other staff in the Worcester Public Schools
Schedule and run all meetings of the collaborating partners
Develop and maintain computerized data bases of educators and other stakeholders in the project
Schedule all programs associated with this project
Coordinate all logistical details of all events associated with the project
Coordinate all registration for individual classes, workshops, and lectures
Actively promote the project both within the collaborating partners and in the wider world of history education
Create reports to the Federal Department of Education
Interface with other TAH projects regionally and nationally
Other duties as assigned
Candidates should possess excellent organizational and communications skills, superb computer
literacy, proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and the ability to work with a diverse
range of people. A Bachelor’s degree in American History, American Studies or related field
is required a Master’s degree is preferred. The incumbent reports to the Director of Outreach.
Salary range is $35,000 – 38,000 with comprehensive benefits package. Anticipated beginning
date is September 1, 2011.
