Dynamic Syllabus Prototype

  • Display the readings identified in the syllabus as text pulled from Perseus, with links to the full text in Perseus, similar Berti LCI demo
    • minimum requirement is to display the English
    • ideal to have side by side English and source text (Greek or Latin)
  • Display the images identified in the syllabus (as images linksfrom Perseus)
  • Ability to link from an assigned reading to the SoSOL annotation interface, so that user can enter/edit an annotation whose body is commentary text and whose target is the  CTS URN/URI  of the assigned reading.
  • Ability to link from an image to the SoSOL annotation interface, so that the user can enter/edit an annotation whose body is commentary text and whose target is the URI of the image.
  • Ability to link from groups of images to the SoSOL annotation interface, so that the user can enter/edit an annotation whose body is commentary text and with multiple targets, one for each of the image URIs in the group.

Commentary Annotations

  • Interface must give the user basic WSYWIG tools for editing
    • at a minimum, tools should provide buttons for bold, italic, font size (+/i) and producing external links
  • Interface must enforce the 500 word limit
  • Commentary text will be serialized in  markdown syntax
  • Commentary text will be assigned URI+CITE URNs as identifiers
  • Annotations will be serialized in OAC RDF/XML, with URI identifiers for both the targets and the body of the annotations
  • These Commentary annotations will be part of a new CITE collection, urn:cite:perseus:mythf2013
  • We will setup a new board for review of the annotations, with Professor Beaulieu and the two TAs as members.
  • When a commentary annotation is approved, it will be available for linking to from the Perseus interface.

Perseids User Login

  • Ideally will have TUFTS UTLN login (via Shibboleth) enabled
    • Fallback to existing OpenID login possible but not ideal

Perseus Display

  • We will modify the Perseus interface to enable links from the commented-on texts to the approved commentaries. (Exact details TBD)

 Requirements Questions

  • Does the syllabus need to be available only to students in the class (maybe in the LMS) or can it be a publicly available page for now?
