At Your Service

The Tufts Obesity Clinic for Animals focuses on individualized weight loss programs with careful monitoring to help pets become slimmer, happier and healthier. Weight management can be very challenging and time-consuming, especially if patients have comorbidities that require additional nutritional modification. We specialize in weight loss plans for patients that  have previously failed on other plans, weight loss plans for pets with special dietary needs, complicated situations including multi-pet or multi-owner households, and above all, personalized care and guidance for owners and veterinarians to help patients achieve and maintain optimal weight.

Deborah Linder, DVM, DACVN

Clinic Faculty: Deborah Linder, DVM, DACVN, a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, is a graduate of Tufts’ Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine , who currently focuses her practice in clinical weight management and research devoted to increasing success in obesity treatment. Dr. Linder is supported by two other board-certified veterinary nutritionists, Dr. Lisa Freeman and Dr. Cailin Heinze.

Clinic Services: There are multiple weight loss programs that can be selected to best fit a pet’s needs. All programs include an initial in-person appointment, in which we will review the pet’s medical and diet history, discuss feeding strategies for that specific pet, answer nutrition questions and provide written recommendations. Depending on the program selected, there are six or more recheck appointments with Dr. Linder, with email or phone availability directly with Dr. Linder throughout the program for all owners.

For patients residing out of state, phone consultations are available. Please call for additional information.

We recognize that other medical conditions often occur in conjunction with obesity. If a pet’s primary concern is a medical condition (for example, kidney disease) even if the pet is also slightly overweight, we would recommend making an appointment with our Clinical Nutrition Service rather than the Obesity Clinic.
