Simulation and analysis are a major part of how scientists and engineers think about, talk about, and test their ideas. How can future scientists and engineers learn this important piece of scientific practice?

Simulation, Measurement, and Stop Action Moviemaking (SiMSAM): A project exploring how middle school students reason about physical phenomena using modeling and simulation technologies. We are studying what happens when “technoscientific” representational tools like these are placed in students’ hands. SiMSAM lets them easily move back and forth between formats to explore their own and each others’ ideas about science.
