Brief Description

Students work together to demonstrate how electricity flows through different circuit components.

Lesson Objectives:

  1. Students will begin to understand how electrons flow.
  2. Students will be able to recognize how different components act in a circuit.
  3. Students will practice teamwork by working as a class to create the demonstration.

Materials Needed:

  • Plastic balls (half labeled with a positive sign and the rest labeled with a negative sign)
  • Two buckets: one will act as the proton side of the battery, and the other will act as the negative side of the battery.
  • Signs that students can wear– resistor, switch, lightbulb, battery or motor. (Students linking hands will serve as the wire.)

Preparation and Set Up:

Gather above materials.

Necessary Background

The instructor must understand how electrical circuits work. Electrons only flow if a circuit is complete. Instructor must also be able to explain batteries, resistors, switches, lights and motors.
