Brief Description Students will learn to use the WeDo kits and Scratch programming by making different types of machines – animals, amusement park rides, and more.

Week 1 Introduction to WeDo Kits Students will play with the WeDos to familiarize themselves with the functions of it. We will give them a few ideas of things to make if they already know what they are doing, but will assume that this is the time they will need to get comfortable with it so that we can start with our challenges soon. Students are given the guideline of eventually making a robot that can do their homework for them.
Week 2 Introduction to Scratch Programming Students will use the Scratch App on their iPads to familiarize themselves with the programming. We will introduce the programming and the basic programming functions. We will give them a few small tasks to try to accomplish and let them take this class to familiarize themselves with the program so that we can start our challenges next week.
Week 3 Scratch Programming Challenges! Students are asked to complete a worksheet of four Scratch challenges, including three basic programming tasks and a fourth task that connects back to the WeDo Challenge from the first day of class: to make a robot that can do your homework for you.

Amusement Park Challenge! Week 1 Week 1 of the Amusement Park Challenge will be the introduction to the project topic and the beginning of construction and program planning. The challenge will be for students to make a ride within an amusement park using the WeDo kit and Scratch. Students will have free reign over what type of ride they want to make and how complex it will be.Amusement Park Challenge! Week 2 Week 2 of the Amusement Park Challenge will be students finishing their construction and working on their programming.

Amusement Park Challenge! Week 3 Week 3 of the Amusement Park Challenge will be students finishing their rides, compiling them into one big ‘neighborhood’ of rides, presenting their rides to the rest of the class. Students will document their work on their iPads.

Week 6 Car-Mover Challenge! Week 1 Students will begin to work on a machine that can move a car – either by making a crane or some other sort of tow-truck-esque machine.
Week 7 Car-Mover Challenge! Week 2 Students will finish their car-mover and present to the rest of the class.
Week 8 WeDoZoo Final Challenge! Week 1 Students will be introduced to their final project: a WeDoZoo! They will be asked to make any sort of animal out of WeDo and Scratch. Students will document all of their work on their iPads. The first week will be an introduction and the beginning of construction.
Week 9 WeDoZoo Final Challenge! Week 2 Students will continue to work on their WeDoZoo Animal and begin to work on programming the animal to act like the animal they are making.
Week 10 WeDoZoo Final Challenge! Week 3 Students will continue to work on their WeDoZoo Animal and finish construction and get close to being done with their programming.
Week 11 WeDoZoo Final Challenge! Week 4 Students will finish their WeDoZoo Animals, assemble every animal in the class into a ‘zoo’, and present to the rest of the class!
