Digital Collection and Archives Training
The Digital Collections and Archives (DCA) supports the teaching and research mission of Tufts University by ensuring the enduring preservation and accessibility of the university’s permanently valuable records and collections. The DCA assists departments, faculty, and staff in managing records and other assets. The DCA collaborates with members of the Tufts community and others to develop tools to discover and access collections to support teaching, research, and administrative needs. The Records Management program within the DCA provides services to all departments and offices of the University by providing advice on efficiently managing institutional data and records. It provides guidance on how to ensure that records and data are retrievable, reliable, and secure. Well-managed records are important because managed records are an asset and unmanaged records are a liability. The Records Management program is happy to meet with any department or office to give advice on any issue about storing, retaining, destroying, or otherwise managing institutional data and records. Please contact Eliot Wilczek, University Records Manager, at 617.636.2439 or eliot.wilczek@tufts.edu with any questions regarding the management of your institutional data and records. The DCA offers two courses on managing institutional data and records: Institutional Data 101: What’s the Right Thing to Do General recordkeeping strategies and rules at Tufts. Reviews strategies for organizing data and records to support people’s work effectively and protect information appropriately. Provides an overview of key Tufts policies concerning data and records management. Institutional Data 102: How to do the Right Thing Storing, destroying, and saving records at Tufts. Provides details on various data and records storage options and strategies at Tufts, properly destroying information, and how to transfer records to the Digital Collections and Archives when you need to preserve records and data for the long term.Office of Sustainability Training
The Office of Sustainability runs the Eco-Ambassadors Program which is open to all interested staff and faculty. Eco-Ambassadors are “green champions” who spend a few hours per month leading and inspiring grass-roots action in their own departments while educating others and increasing awareness throughout the university about environmentally sustainable practices. Launched in 2008, the Eco-Ambassador is an education- and action-focused program that provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable behaviors and infrastructure changes in their office. Eco-Ambassadors learn about a variety of topics, including sustainability at Tufts, waste, energy, and strategies to effectively communicate with their co-workers. Regular Eco-Ambassador program The original program was designed to run from September to August every fiscal year. Participants attend one (1) two-hour meeting per month with colleagues from across the university to learn about a particular environmental concern (e.g. water, energy). The specific days and times is based on the availability of the people accepted into the program. Meetings take place on the Medford campus and are broadcasted via videoconference for participants in other locations. Participants must attend 8 or more of the 12 sessions to become an Eco-Ambassador and be eligible to apply for grants towards office greening activities. Registration for FY2012-2013 is now open! Each campus’ program has its own application, so be sure to use the link that corresponds with your location. Medford Application Boston Application Grafton Application For questions about enrollment, please contact Dani Jenkins. Condensed program for Boston and Grafton Developed for people who cannot attend the year-long program, the condensed version consists of two half-day sessions. It is is offered in Boston twice a year. Similar half-day sessions or one full-day session are available on demand in Grafton. The first session will cover sustainability information and concepts, energy, communication and behavior change, and finally, climate change. The second session will go over transportation, waste, water, and purchasing. These topics were chosen because they are thought to be the areas in which Boston campus employees can affect the greatest change in their offices.Additional Articles and Resources:
