Summer Internship, Purpose NYC

We are seeking interns to work with our team to develop and execute Purpose movements, from strategy and ideation through testing and implementation. Fellows will work with our team of strategists, technologists and interaction designers through the summer on a full-time or near full-time basis.

Here are some examples of the type of work you may help undertake as an intern:

  • Helping to develop our incubator movements, e.g., a movement against global poverty
  • Working with teams to develop business plans for entrepreneurial ventures in the new social and green economy, e.g., sustainable food, electric vehicles, etc.
  • Serving as a supporting member of client engagement teams as a strategist, interaction designer, technologist, etc.
  • Developing cutting-edge thinking on behavioral change, community-building and social action – and how engaging people online can help facilitate change.

Prospective interns are:

  • Deeply committed to our mission of building movements to address the world’s biggest challenges
  • Flexible and entrepreneurial in the approach to working with our interdisciplinary team to build creative solutions to complex problems

The internship will begin on June 1 through August 15, though end dates are flexible with regard to academic schedules. Interns will receive a stipend. Purpose is located in Manhattan and the role is based here.

May 15: Financing the Future of Energy Summit

Join the Sustainable Endowments Institute and our 15 partner institutions for the Financing the Future of Energy Efficiency Summit at Harvard University on May 15, 2012.

This one-day gathering will bring together national leaders in sustainability and finance with presidents, trustees, and senior officials in finance, facilities and sustainability at colleges, universities, foundations and other nonprofit institutions.

The Summit’s theme is Transforming Energy Efficiency Upgrades from Expenses to High Return Investments; the focus is on colleges and universities as pivotal points to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to demonstrate the groundbreaking budget benefits of green revolving funds.

Sustainability and Food Sourcing Coordinator, Yale Univ (New Haven, CT)

This full-time position will support all aspects of Yale Dining sustainability initiatives including supplier management, product evaluation and external, interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications related to these initiatives. Successful candidates will have six years of related work experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

 
Required Education and Experience:
1. Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Additional Education and Experience:
1. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in related field.
2. Preferred: experience in food service management, purchasing, and environmental programs.

Skills & Abilities:
1. Ability to coordinate multiple projects, set priorities and work independently.
2. Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail.
3. Flexible and adaptable.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
5. Strong Customer Service Skills.
6. Excellent interpersonal communications, writing and organization skills

Bay State Bike Week is coming up! Help Tufts win the Mass Commute Challenge

bay state bike weekThe gloomy weather may not encourage you to go outside today, but have a look at the 10-day forecast, savor that long row of numbers in the 60s, and dust off your bicycle: the 2012 Bay State Bike Week is going on from May 14-20! Presented by MassDOT and MassBike, this “annual celebration of human-powered, two-wheeled transportation” is full of local eventsfrom organized rides, film screenings, scavenger hunts, etc., making Massachusetts the only state in the nation with a truly statewide bike week.

You can also register and help Tufts win the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge, a competition open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Massachusetts. Simply pledge to bike for all or part of Bay State Bike Week and let’s get Tufts on theleaderboard this year. Look at the real-time stats to see how we’re doing against our competitors. MIT is leading now and we’re 5th. Come on, register now! Prizes will be raffled off at the Bike Bash wrap up party.
