Student Sustainability Advisor – Oregon State University (Corvallis, OR)

The Student Sustainability Advisor is charged with supporting and advising the Student Sustainability Initiative (SSI), a program that is part of Student Leadership & Involvement. The advisor will support the SSI in the development of long and short term vision and goals and in the implementation of a comprehensive, innovative sustainability programming model that is grounded in student development and sustainability education theory. This position supports the Oregon State University academic mission by developing engaged, reflective citizens, creating opportunities for experiential learning, and supporting the institutional strategic plan centered on healthy people, planet, and economy.

Through collaboration with students, faculty, and staff, the Advisor will be responsible for advising, supporting, and growing student-driven co-curricular sustainability outreach, engagement, and educational projects and efforts in order to promote and advance a culture of sustainability that engages Oregon State’s diverse student demographic. The Advisor position is responsible for supporting programming that will allow students to acquire and cultivate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to lead more sustainable lifestyles and be agents of change. Along with the SSI Director, a student position, the Advisor will provide advising and supervision support to the student staff housed in the Student Sustainability Center. In cooperation with other SLI staff and the OSU Sustainability Coordinator, the Advisor will continuously develop co-curricular engagement and sustainability opportunities that meet the needs of the contemporary student population.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelors degree with minimum experience equal to two full years or relevant professional experience gaining requisite knowledge, skills and abilities pertaining to the position OR any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, abilities have been achieved. In particular, this position requires:

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Student development theory and practice
  • Sustainability principles, frameworks, and models
  • Advising, mentoring, coaching techniques and theory

Experience with:

  • Working with, supporting, and developing diverse populations
  • Coordinating and prioritizing work for self and others
  • Event and program planning
