Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources: Creating a Cleaner Energy Future for the Commonwealth

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) develops and implements policies and programs aimed at ensuring the adequacy, security, diversity, and cost-effectiveness of the Commonwealth’s energy supply within the context of creating a cleaner energy future. To that end, DOER strives to:

  • Ensure deployment of all cost-effective energy efficiency
  • Maximize development of clean energy resources
  • Create and implement energy strategies to assure reliable supplies and improve the cost of clean energy relative to fossil-fuel based generation
  • Support Massachusetts’ clean energy companies and spur Massachusetts’ clean energy employment

Objectives of the Massachusetts DOER Internship Program

The DOER Internship Programs seeks to provide interns with exciting opportunities to assist the Department of Energy Resources with implementing energy policies in areas such as renewables, energy efficiency, alternative transportation, energy markets, and more. The program is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, law school students, and other individuals who are seeking experience in the energy arena.

Internship Program Overview

In conjunction with Massachusetts DOER’s talented and professional team, interns are provided with education, training, hands-on experience, supervision, and networking opportunities, utilizing modern technology and information systems during their internships.

Current internship positions are unpaid; however, DOER can work with interns to earn academic credits. Internships are conducted in supervised settings and are available across DOER’s various divisions and functions.

Current Postings

While all of the DOER divisions and functions have intern slots available; some have specific projects that they are looking for assistance with for the summer. If the duties are related to a specific project, click on the attached file in the table below and review to see if your field of study and skills would fit that position. If there is no specific file attached; duties will be generally related to the division/function mission. Note that specific positions may include additional materials to be submitted with your resume and cover letter.

Positions may be part-time of full time depending on schedules of applicants and the requirements of the position.
