The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit gathers energy leaders in academia, business, and government to work towards moving cutting-edge energy technologies into the marketplace. Hosted by the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy in Washington DC, this summit will include over 150 expert speakers and keynote addresses and a showcase featuring more than 280 breakthrough energy technologies. A bipartisan group of US Senators and Representatives will also be in attendance.
The Student Program is an opportunity for graduate students to attend the Summit, participate in additional student-focused panel sessions, and network with corporate recruiters. Accepted students will have their registration fee waived but must make their own travel and hotel accommodations. In Washington DC , the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the University of Wisconsin-Madison announced the launch of the 2014 Agricultural Innovation Prize in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture.
The competition is open to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students across all academic disciplines and runs through spring 2014, when teams will compete for the chance to win $215,000 in prize money, with a grand prize of $100,000; making this the largest agriculture-focused student competition in the world.
The contest encourages student teams to develop innovative plans to address social and agricultural challenges within food systems, improving the standard of living and quality of life for the world’s population.

The Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Assistant Project Manager for Environmental Dashboard. UFI is looking for an Executive Director to spearhead their fund development and take on managerial responsibilities. The Urban Farming Institute (UFI) is a two-year old nonprofit operating under the fiscal sponsorship of New Ecology Inc. It was created to respond to challenges faced by individuals and groups who would like to create an urban farming business. UFI offers education on the economic, social and health benefits of urban farms and trains individuals to become farmers. It is UFI’s mission to create the best partnerships between long term land owners, neighborhood residents and individual farmers. UFI has: 1) organized its first Urban Farming Conference in the spring 0f 2013 with over 300 attendees and is currently planning the 2nd; 2) advised the City (on Article 89) and the State on policy and legislation supporting urban farming; and 3) has developed a classroom farming curriculum and partnered with other collaborators to graduating 7 from this Urban Farming Training Program.
