Intern/Volunteer, Food and Water Watch (Cambridge, MA)

My name is Sammi Dowdell, and I’m currently working on Food and Water Watch’s campaign to save antibiotics for medicine, not factory farms here in Cambridge. I’m currently looking for interns and volunteers to help me gather grassroots support! Right now, 80% of antibiotics in the US are used on factory farms to prevent infection and to compensate for filthy conditions. At the same time, 2 million Americans get antibiotic resistant infections every year because these drugs are losing their effectiveness.
We can create a world where we can count on medicine working, and where our farms are safe and healthy. But right now, antibiotic resistance is such a serious problem that in some cases, there are few or no treatment options. The FDA and Congress have failed to act on the issue, so Food and Water Watch is building a groundswell of public support in cities across the country, asking city councils to pass resolutions calling on our federal legislature to stop the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms. Food and Water Watch is working with a coalition of organizations, businesses, and professionals to ensure that antibiotics are saved for medicine, not factory farms. We are looking for bright, talented volunteers and interns to help us on all aspects of this critical campaign.
For more information on the campaign, visit http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/food/factoryfarms/antibiotics/.
