Food Link is looking for a part-time communication intern to join their staff. This position will be critical to communicating with the community about the important work we are doing to provide nutritious food to our partners, educate the public about food waste, and recruit more volunteers to help rescue food. This is an unpaid, part-time, remote summer internship. The position would require 10 hours per week for 12 weeks.

 About Food Link

Food Link is an Arlington-based food rescue non profit that uses the power of volunteers to collect fresh food from food retailers and distribute it to local agencies serving residents in need. We partner with 12 local grocery and prepared food stores to bring high-quality fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread and prepared foods to 30 social service agencies including after school programs, programs for at-risk youth, low income housing facilities, homeless shelters, food pantries, and senior centers.

 Duties

  • Manage social media platforms

    • Facebook using Buffer (3 posts per week)

    • Blog using Wix (1 post per week)

    • E-newsletter using MailChimp (1 or 2 newsletters per month)

  • Write press releases

  • Create media list for outreach

  • Attend and photograph outreach events

  • Observe and photograph some operations

Qualifications

  • Interest in social media, outreach, communications

  • Interest in food rescue programs, anti-hunger programs, food systems, environmental sustainability or community building

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Strong social media and design skills

  • Preferred, but not required, familiarity with the Arlington community
