Oct. 7 Learn How to Compost in 5 Minutes!

When: Friday, October 7th from 11 am to 5 pm

Where: RezQuad Cafe, located behind Miller Hall, next to the TIE office

Ever wondered how you can keep your smelly, messy leftover food out of your own personal trash can? How you can turn your leftovers into dirt? Find out all this and more during composting office hours at the Office of Sustainability.

Stop by anytime between 11 and 5 PM and in a few minutes you’ll learn how to set up and maintain a compost bucket in your own house or dorm.

Recycling Coordinator Dawn Quirk will be present from 11-12 and OOS program associate Jess Madding will be available from 11-5 to answer any questions about composting. We will also be giving away free compost buckets and liners as well as examples of compostable food!

Somerville Local First (SLF) will be hosting their annual, hugely popular get-together with some of their local pals. Bringing together some of the best in Somerville eats and treats. Featuring local craft brews from Pretty ThingsNarragensett,Rapscallion, and Clown Shoes!

In the way of entertainment Hugh McGowan fromThe Burren open mics and  DJ Die Young will keep people dancing and having a great time. The guest list keeps growing, stay tuned for the latest attendees.

Oct. 1 HONK! Festival

When: Saturday, October 1 at 12 Noon

Where: Parade leaves Davis Square, Somerville at 12 noon, travels down Elm Street, then Beech Street onto Massachusetts Ave to Harvard Square.

HONK!, is an amazing street festival of activist street bands http://honkfest.org/.   The music playing takes place in Somerville on Saturday and on Sunday there is a big parade of bands and local groups working on social, environmental, and economic justice issues that goes from Davis Square in Somerville to Harvard Square in Cambridge.
