CES Seminar: Health, Haiti, and Gadyen Dlo

November 8, 2012 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Larry Warner is a Brown alum (AB ’97) and current Master of Public Health student (MPH ‘13), currently working as a Public Health Specialist with the Safer Institute in Providence.  The Safer Institute is a non-profit innovation center for governmental, public safety, public health and NGO technology and policy.  Warner has been involved in coordinating a public health and medical project in rural Haiti, an area that was already lacking infrastructure and resources when it was hit by a devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010.

Warner will talk about his experiences in Haiti as well as discuss opportunities for students to engage in independent study or internships with Safer Institute.  Example projects include researching and developing solutions to needs such as designing and implementing low cost point of access water purification systems, or improving the very limited sanitation infrastructure.  While improving water, sanitation, and hygiene are very large undertakings, if a solution can be developed for one community, and proven effective, it can be replicated or brought to scale to serve a larger area.

Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with Search Engine
Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains.
If you know of any please share. It’s much appreciated!

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely
off topic but I had to tell someone! Appreciate it!
