Environmental Leadership Program Webinar: Invasive Species Management

In the summer of 2000 variable milfoil was discovered in the Squam Lakes in central New Hampshire. Since that time, the Squam Lakes Association has applied numerous techniques to manage the areas of infestation and prevent the possibilities of new infestations, of both variable milfoil and other potential exotic invasives. Using handpulling techniques, a Diver Assisted Suction Harvester, surveying and education program, the Squam Lakes have not seen a new infestation since 2007. As the Squam Lakes Association wraps up its thirteen year of work with milfoil, they face the problem of maintaining funding and community involvement to continue to manage the invasive into the future.
