“
Hurricane Sandy Paralyzes New York, New Jersey.” ”
U.S. Drought Comparable to 1930s Dust Bowl.” These are just some of the headlines Andrew Freedman has written for
Climate Central during the past year, as extreme weather and climate events pounded the U.S. with unusual ferocity and regularity. In his presentation, Freedman will discuss the emerging scientific findings about how global warming may already be manifesting itself in our day-to-day weather, and what this “new normal” climate means for the U.S. and other countries. He will also emphasize why a knowledge base in planning for and coping with extreme weather and climate events is quickly becoming essential in a variety of fields, from finance to urban and coastal planning for resilient adaptation, agriculture, water and forestry management, international development, and security.
Andrew Freedman is a senior science writer for Climate Central, focusing on coverage of extreme weather and climate change. He has represented Climate Central in media appearances with Sky News, CBC Radio, NPR, Huffington Post Live, Sirius XM Radio, and others, and has been cited as the leading publisher of articles on climate change in 2012. Prior to working with Climate Central, Freedman was a reporter for Congressional Quarterly and Greenwire/E&E Daily. His work has also appeared in the Washington Post and on
washingtonpost.com, where he wrote a weekly climate science column for the “Capital Weather Gang” blog. He holds a Master’s in Climate and Society from Columbia University and a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University.
