Organize in politically critical states to advance our national environmental agenda

As part of a team of field organizers working in key states across the country, Environment America’s New England and Mid-Atlantic Federal Field Organizers will build the public and political support we need to advance our national environmental agenda in communities across the regions they are organizing in.

When powerful industries and their political allies stand in the way of environmental progress, we need media attention, the support of broad-based coalitions, an informed public, and grassroots action to counter their power and influence and win the day for our environment. Our federal field organizers will organize news events, bring community leaders and other constituencies together, and organize town hall meetings, rallies and other grassroots actions to show support for our national issues.

The Council’s report both renews Tufts’ commitments to greenhouse gas reduction goals and sets new goals focusing on energy and emissions, waste reduction, and water conservation – areas where Tufts’ operations have the greatest impact on the environment.

This document will be the starting point for the next phase in the process: implementation planning, which will be overseen by Vice President of Operations Linda Snyder. The Council, co-chaired by President Monaco and Executive Vice President Patricia Campbell, was comprised of students, staff and faculty representing all Tufts campuses in Massachusetts.

When implementation planning gets underway, we are counting on the Tufts community to stay engaged and participate in creating the change needed to build a sustainable university!

• Evaluate specific needs and best practices for eligibe households. Develop and recruit participants, provide educational materials, schedule info sessions, and answer questions.
• Develop, design and produce educational content for materials and website (letter to eligible households, flyer promoting opportunity to participate in pilot, postcard to participants, and stickers for kitchen/curbside containers.
• Order, handle delivery and distribute curbside/kitchen containers and compostable bags door to door, including at info sessions.
• Ensure ongoing education during pilot of best practices. Develop, implement, and analyze household surveys to get feedback from participants. Conduct field observations of curbside collection and collect participation data.
• Summarize and help present findings in a Phase 2 and final report including survey responses, pilot results, best practices and lessons learned.
• Based on the results of the pilot, determine whether to recommend expansion of the residential curbside food scraps collection program City-wide, to continue it for targeted neighborhoods, or to discontinue it. Describe the rational for the decision and incorporate in final report.

Minimum Requirements:  Undergraduate coursework in environmental, communications, planning or other degree granting program that relates to this scope of work.  Must have experience working in an office environment and have excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills. Knowledgeable in analyzing economic and operational issues.  Strong written skills, quick learner, excellent organization skills, and highly motivated.  Must possess a positive and professional attitude, and provide diligent follow-up and attention to detail. Fluency in Microsoft Office.

Rate/Hours of Employment:  $17 per hour; 15 hours per week, 96 weeks. Position will begin in September 2013 through June 2015.

Duties:
Communications (40 percent)

• Assist with communications plan creation and implementation
• Manage EGA website (consistently updating all content, blogging and recruiting guest bloggers, maintaining member database, keeping information fresh and relevant, like member highlights, photos, videos, tweets), working with Knowledge and Program Manager and web designer as needed
• Keep website up-to-date with event information and resources (planning workbooks, speaker information, agendas, event blogging, recordings)
• Manage EGA listserve

Member Services: Events and Webinars (30 percent)

• Assist Member Services Manager with all concurrent session and keynote speaker logistics for events
• Assist with prospective member outreach and other projects as needed
• Provide logistical support for all EGA webinars
• Lead 3 – 4 relevant webinars per year

General and Administrative (30 percent)

• Provide basic office administrative support (filtering mail, phone calls, responding to member queries, maintaining orderly office space, shipping and mailings as needed, ordering supplies, etc.)
• Assist bookkeeper and Executive Director with managing organizational expenses
• Lead on paperless office and implementing Liquid Planner for staff and project management
• Assist Executive Director with building and uploading board books, record and distribute meeting minutes, and with general scheduling, expense reports, and other administrative tasks
• Travel and attend networking events as needed

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the following areas:

• grassroots organizing, philanthropy, or program outreach/support;
• producing high quality and engaging content for online and print materials;
• environmental communications; experience with managing online advocacy or engagement tools, and data systems;
• experience and enthusiasm for working with people and committee processes related to event planning and logistics coordination;
• enjoy engaging with a wide range of people in person at events, as well as focusing on small group work and individual areas of responsibility;
• creative, self-starting, super organized, highly detail-orientated individual with the ability to find innovative uses of tools and technology to implement effective and efficient engagement strategies;
• excellent oral and written communication skills;
• basic design and image formatting skills, knowledge of HTML, and best practices for publishing engaging web content.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, work well independently and as a team are essential.

The Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) at Butler University invites applications for Butler’s first Sustainability Coordinator. CoFED Regional Organizer Fellows will build the cooperative and food movement by helping students start and run cooperative food ventures on campuses across North America.

As a Regional Organizer Fellow, you will participate in problem solving and peer learning with student teams and allies. You will support approximately 5 team projects in your region by cultivating relationships and facilitating progress with each team. Projects in each region range from cafés and food trucks to buying clubs and grocery stores. You will also foster regional identity with the movement by bringing together student teams, mentors, and consultants in a solidarity network.

This new manager level position in the Colorado State University Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) Department will report to the Director of PTS.   The position is responsible for planning, developing, marketing, and implementing alternative transportation projects, programs, and policies in order to promote alternate modes of transportation, improve access to transit and enhance connectivity between and throughout the Colorado State University campuses.  Alternative Transportation Programs will include, but is not exclusive to: pedestrian, bicycle, car pool, and shuttle transit and infrastructure.
