Agency Description
The Environmental and Transportation Planning Division is responsible for improving the city’s quality of life by working to protect and improve the city’s environment and create a more sustainable community through initiatives on transportation, energy, and climate change.
 
The divisions’ sustainability planning activities cover transportation planning and implementation, with an emphasis on bicycle, pedestrian, and transit modes; energy efficiency and renewable energy planning and implementation; climate protection and preparedness planning and implementation.
 
Intern Responsibilities
The Sustainability Intern will assist the Environmental and Transportation Planning Division staff primarily on climate protection and preparedness projects, including local energy planning.  This will involve implementation of programs and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with activities in the community and municipal operations.  The intern may also be called upon to assist on other environmental projects such as the review of major development projects, responses to public inquiries, and investigation and remediation of site contamination.  This is a chance to work on a wide range of municipal sustainability initiatives.
 
Desired Skills and Interests
Ability to use various computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.  Knowledge and interest in the technical and policy basis of climate change, energy, air quality, and sustainability.   Interest in community process and participation is also desired.
 
WORK-STUDY ELIGIBLE STUDENTS ARE PREFERRED, BUT NON-WORK STUDY STUDENTS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
 
Starting Date:  06-01-13
Ending Date:  05/31/14 unless extended by Department
Hours:  37.5  hours per week, not including holidays summer; 10hours/week during the school year.  Hours are flexible, however.  A summer-only internship is not available.
Compensation: $14.51/hour

Development Intern – Youth Enrichment Services (Boston, MA)

Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is a successful non-profit organization that serves urban youth and provides them with new outdoor experiences, confidence-building activities, and leadership programs.YES offers a year-round continuum of programs that promote physical activity and guide youth toward positive development, leadership training, community service, career programming, and college planning.

YES is seeking a part-time intern to join its growing development team. This position is responsible for a full range of activities related to fundraising, in particular individual giving and events. Activities include:

  • Coordinating small-to-midsize fundraising events, in coordination with Development Committee members
  • Supporting the coordination of the April 2013 YES Gala fundraiser event
  • Partnering with organizational leadership to execute donor site visits and other cultivation activities
  • Preparing and editing communications for donors (e.g. acknowledgement letters, thank you cards, etc)
  • Assisting with other development projects as requested

Green Streets Initiative (GSI), a Cambridge-based nonprofit involved in promoting sustainable and healthy transportation, is seeking a Fundraising/Development Intern for the fall semester and beyond.  In this role, you will work with GSI to expand and sustain sponsorship and partnerships with community corporations, retailers and institutions. Candidates should have a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for the GSI mission 1+ years’ work experience in related field, excellent written and verbal communications skills and more. Compensation: This position is currently an unpaid internship, with the caveat that, as funds are raised, the intern will be compensated based on GSI sponsorship acquired.
