Graduate Fellowships, University of Delaware

Three research assistantships are available beginning February 1, 2014, from the Marine Policy Program, School of Marine Sciences and Policy, University of Delaware, for qualified student-applicants interested in policy-focused research related to (a) the economics of eco-system based fisheries management; (b) social dimensions of offshore wind power; and (c) integrated risk analysis in the offshore wind power sphere. TIE Fellowship (Tufts University, Medford, MA)

Matriculated graduate students at any of Tufts University¹s graduate programs and professional schools are eligible to apply for a TIE fellowship to conduct interdisciplinary environmental research projects. This is an opportunity to recognize and provide greater visibility for stellar interdisciplinary students and their work. Selected students will receive funding toward a research stipend and/or supplies (up to $6000 per graduate fellowship). Funds are available May 15, 2014, with the fellowship terms extending from June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015.

C2C Fellowship Workshops

 

Are you an undergrad or recent grad? Do you aspire to be a leader in sustainability in business and/or politics?

Bard Center for Environmental Politics   trains C2C fellows to become exactly that. They have upcoming weekend training sessions, including one close to home, at Bentley University in Waltham, MA.

Students can apply now. Applications are due two weeks prior to each workshop. Learn more about the benefits of becoming a Bard C2C Fellow here. Cost for the weekend trainings, including food (and lodging for those traveling more than an hour), is $30. Registration scholarships are available, and students can often apply to their student governments for travel support as well.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build your skills as a sustainability leader and build your network of others who are passionate about changing the world.

Sustainability Distinguished Teaching Fellowship (Emory University, GA)

EMORY UNIVERSITY announces the Sustainability Distinguished Teaching Fellowship, a two-year postdoctoral position (with potential of becoming a three-year position) for an outstanding scholar of applied behavioral social science. This career development fellowship in teaching and research is intended as a stepping-stone to attain a permanent position elsewhere. We seek a specialist in sustainability-related behavior change�individual or organizational�with expertise in social, cultural, economic, and psychological factors affecting sustainability-related behavior. Applicants must have the PhD in hand by January 1, 2014, a strong research record, and a commitment to quality teaching. Fellows will teach two courses per semester, including student opportunities for on-campus research and community-engaged learning. The appointment offers a competitive salary and a yearly allowance of $1000 for research/travel.

Fellowship on Women in Wildlife Protection (Kingsville, TX)

GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP/ASSISTANTSHIP to begin the fall 2013 semester that would lead to a Master of Science from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Kingsville Texas. The student chosen for this program will be required to complete course work and a thesis at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, as well as an assistantship in the Conservation Education Program at the Welder Wildlife Foundation located on the Welder Wildlife Refuge near Sinton, Texas.  The student’s thesis research will focus on investigating historical and current roles of women in the wildlife profession, and the challenges women have faced in their careers. Fellowship stipend is $14,000/yr plus $900 insurance stipend.

The assistantship will be broken into 2 segments and completion of the graduate fellowship/ assistantship program will take approximately 3 years.  The student will be on a Welder Wildlife Foundation Fellowship while at the university and on salary while at the Welder Foundation.  Housing will be provided while working at the Welder Foundation.


As an assistant in the Welder Foundation’s Conservation Education Program, the graduate student will help plan and conduct on-site and outreach education and training programs for public school and university students, and will assist the Education Program Coordinator with programs for adults and teachers. The graduate student will also assist with workshops, field days, symposia, public tours, preparation of educational materials, and maintenance of museum displays and biological collections.


Applicants must have a B.S. or B.A. degree in a biology-related field (e.g., Wildlife Biology, Ecosystem Science, Natural Resource Management, Zoology, etc.), and minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and combined GRE score of 1100 (300 on GRE new scale). A strong background in wildlife or range ecology, conservation, and management is important.  Ideal candidates would have excellent written and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and sincere interest in education and working with people.

CoFed Regional Coop Coordinator Fellowship (various locations)

CoFED Regional Organizer Fellows will build the cooperative and food movement by helping students start and run cooperative food ventures on campuses across North America.

As a Regional Organizer Fellow, you will participate in problem solving and peer learning with student teams and allies. You will support approximately 5 team projects in your region by cultivating relationships and facilitating progress with each team. Projects in each region range from cafés and food trucks to buying clubs and grocery stores. You will also foster regional identity with the movement by bringing together student teams, mentors, and consultants in a solidarity network.

Nonprofit Leadership (Marin SEL) Fellow – Strategic Energy Innovations (San Rafael, CA)

Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is seeking a dedicated individual, passionate about working in the non-profit sector, to provide a year of service as a full-time, paid fellow for a cutting edge organization focused on designing innovative solutions to address community climate, energy and resource efficiency goals.

SEI’s Nonprofit Leadership Fellow will have the opportunity to work directly with our Executive Director, in addition working in one or more of our primary program areas (Eco-Smart Education, Green Housing, and Sustainable Communities,) depending on candidate background/ interests and our need for project development and support.  This is a full-time (approximately 12-month) paid position, based out of our San Rafael, Marin County Office.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the intended mid-year start date (exact dates to be negotiated.)  This position offers exceptional training and professional development and exposure in the areas of climate/energy sustainability and non-profit fundraising/ management.

Support Areas and Associated Responsibilities

This fellow will work on planning and implementing cutting edge resource efficiency programs, with exposure to key components of program design, promotion/ fundraising, implementation, reporting and evaluation:

  • Marin School of Environmental Leadership – Approximately half of the fellow’s focus will support our work on MarinSEL (www.MarinSEL.org).  This new “school within a school” combines the breadth and diversity of public education with the depth and integrated learning of project-based education.  At MarinSEL, teachers guide students through inquiry-based projects where they apply theories from multiple disciplines to address real world environmental and social issues.  Rigorous academics are united with field-based opportunities and service to community, building leadership skills as students become stewards of their environment.  The fellow will support the Executive Director in overall management of this innovative program, working with teachers, students, and volunteers to ensure success.
  • Climate/ Energy Program Support – Depending on interest and experience, a portion of the fellow’s time will be spent in direct support of one of our many programs in the areas of eco-education and curriculum development, green housing, and sustainable communities.
  • Proposal Support – A portion of the fellow’s focus will entail working across SEI Directors and Managers to write grant applications to fund our work.
  • Special Project Support – Under the direction of SEI’s Executive Director, the fellow will devote the balance of hours to help plan for and implement new and innovative programs that expand our team’s collective body of work and measurable impact.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate is highly skilled working across the Microsoft suite of office automation software (e.g.: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).  Qualified candidates will also evidence strong quantitative, written and verbal communication skills, in addition to the following:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a group setting
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and appropriately discipline youth
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Background and familiarity in basic energy efficiency concepts and conservation practices
  • Experience in marketing and/or community outreach
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated analytical and writing skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Strong creative thinking skills
  • Ability to research, organize, and synthesize information

Desired qualifications:

  • Strong analytic skills, experience with Excel (building spreadsheets, formulas and data manipulation,) math or science background
  • Basic knowledge of core energy efficiency and building science concepts
  • Prior energy, climate change work experience
  • Working knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions related activities and current policies and programs
  • Understanding of financial analysis or modeling
  • Marketing/community outreach experience
  • Web/Video Experience

Compensation

This position offers a stipend at a rate equivalent to the range of $17,500 – $21,000 over a 12-month period, based on candidate qualifications and prorated based on availability.   Beyond monetary compensation, this fellowship affords the candidate significant technical skill and non-profit leadership skills development, fieldwork and networking opportunities.

Sustainable Technology Research Fellow – Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH)

The Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Sustainable Technology Research Fellow. This is a full-time, one-year position (renewal for additional years contingent on grant funding), beginning on June 1, 2013, reporting to Professor of Environmental Studies, John Petersen.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist in the development and management of “Environmental Dashboard,” a novel technological system that provides community residents with environmentally and socially contextualized real-time feedback on electricity and water flows and environmental conditions through residential and commercial buildings and through cities. Requirements: We seek an individual with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience, with advanced computer skills and leadership potential and strong organizational skills who is excited by the opportunity to develop and manage novel technology designed to motivate and empower citizens to take care of the environment. Reliability, creativity, ability to independently trouble shoot and solve technical problems and to collaborate as a team member are necessary.

Desired Qualifications: General hardware and software problem solving skills and experience; scripting (e.g. php); database management (SQL); system administration and system management experience; web design (HTML, XML); project management. It is not essential that applicants have all of these skills and experiences, but we are looking for someone who has substantial knowledge of computer systems and the demonstrated ability to learn and teach themselves new skills as needs arise.

Compensation: Within the range established for this position, salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.

Summer Fellowship – Breakthrough Institute (Oakland, CA)

Applications for Breakthrough Generation 2013 are now open — deadline March 5, 2013 at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time.

The Breakthrough Institute is seeking five to ten outstanding young analysts, writers, and thought leaders for a paid fellowship in summer 2013 as part of their young leaders initiative, Breakthrough Generation. Fellows will contribute writing and research to one of three policy programs at the Breakthrough Institute: Energy and Climate, Conservation and Development, or Economic Growth and Innovation. Fellowships are highly competitive — only 5-10 percent of applicants are generally accepted — and involve cutting-edge writing, research, and public policy analysis.

The fellowship runs for ten weeks between June and August 2013 and pays $500 per week. The exact dates will be set in March. Fellows work 40 hours per week, and may be considered for full-time employment at the end of the fellowship. Breakthrough does not provide housing.

Who Can Apply?

Final-year undergraduates, college graduates, and postgraduates are eligible to apply for the fellowship. Fellowships are open to applicants from any country.
